Rooted Week 8

Nov 2, 2025    Pastor Micah Pelkey

We are ALL givers.

There are two great days in a person’s life — the day we are born and the day we discover why.

Am I generous with my time?

Am I generous with my words?

Am I generous with my talents?

Am I generous with my finances?

Am I generous with grace/forgiveness?

Standard of Living

Standard of Giving

Proverbs 11:25 —The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Am I generous with my time?

You are not here in the world for yourself. You have been sent here for others. The world is waiting for you!

— Catherine Booth

Co-Founder Salvation Army

Am I generous with my (life-giving) words?

Ephesians 4:29 — Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Caring

Compliment

Courageous

Communication

Proverbs 12:25 — Worry takes away your joy, but a kind word makes you happy.

Am I generous with my talents?

1 Peter 4:10 — God has helped each of you in a certain way. Think carefully about how to use that gift from God well. Remember that God has given many different gifts to his people so that they can help each other.

Am I generous with my finances?

A faith that hasn’t reached your wallet probably hasn’t reached your heart.

— Adrian Rogers

Matthew 6:24 — No one can be a slave to two masters. He will hate one master and love the other. Or he will follow one master and refuse to follow the other. So you cannot serve God and money at the same time.

1 Timothy 6:10 — For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

It’s never enough.

My feelings fluctuate with my finances.

My mood is tied to my money.

I’m sensitive about the subject.

I only ask for God’s help in crisis or when I’m in a financial dilemma. I don’t include Him in my financial decisions, donations, and overall financial direction.

I can’t keep consistency in my giving.

I don’t have joy when it comes to my giving.

Matthew 6:33 — The thing you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you.

Proverbs 3:9 — Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.

We are wealthy.

Does God get my first and best?

Luke 12

15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

16 Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops.

17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’

18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods.

19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

What is my first thought when it comes to my finances?

The foolishness was not necessarily that he had accumulated wealth, it’s that he didn’t know why he had wealth.

“The world asks, ‘What does a man own?’ Christ asks, ‘How does he use it?’”

— Andrew Murray

The rich man ran out of time before he ran out of money.

Am I generous with grace?

Am I generous with my forgiveness?

Ephesians 4:32 — Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other the same as God forgave you through Christ.

God was so generous with His grace in my life.

Grace, like water, flows to the lowest part.

— Author Philip Yancey

God answers the mess of life with one word: grace.

— Author Max Lucado

I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I want to be; but I am not what I once was, and by the grace of God I am what I am.

— Songwriter John Newton
